For newborns and babies the session takes place where the infant is most comfortable at that time, whether in the arms of their parents or the practitioner, on a cushion or therapy table. Whether sleeping, feeding or crying, I will work with the baby to support them in that moment.
We discuss the pregnancy and the birth. Whether there are any feeding, latch or digestion issues. Any matters that may be affecting the baby or family unit. Physical and emotional. Time is then given to see what the baby wants to express, through the assessment and treatment. Dialogue with the baby and their parents continues throughout the session.
Although results vary, it is likely just one or two treatments may relieve them of many of their symptoms.
Benefits may include resolving sleep issues or a gassy uncomfortable baby now finding it easier in tummy time. A side preference may be resolved, reflux symptoms or a painful latch; being less fussy or pooping regularly. Making family life that little bit easier.
Looking ahead, the outcome for a baby that is now feeding properly, for example, is that they usually reach their developmental milestones on time. Developmental mile stones, especially gross motor, is important for the way babies then turn into toddlers and children, and learn.
If the tongue is now functioning correctly, as an infant they will then be able to eat solids better and not cough and gag and want to spit out. Plus the tongue will then be able to flatten out the palate, put pressure on the hard palate so they can clear out their sinuses and breath through their nose better, meaning that at night they get into deep sleep and not be tired and grumpy the next day.
Most babies experience noticeable results immediately, have a deeper, less painful latch; stop clicking while feeding; or have a noticeable change in head shape. It often takes only between one and four treatments to resolve the major issue or concern.
